BRADDELL HEIGHTS
A Greener Town, A Gracious Community

2 November 2008 (Sunday)

Serangoon Sunshine Park & St Gabriel’s Secondary School

9.00am - 1.00pm

In conjunction with the national Clean and Green Singapore (CGS), the Braddell Heights grassroots organisations and the Marine Parade Town Council will be jointly organising the Braddell Heights – A Greener Town, A Gracious Community to promote a cleaner and greener environment with activities catered to encourage residents’ participation in maintaining a healthier environment. This event will be held on 2 November 2008 from 9.00am to 1.00pm at the Serangoon Sunshine Park and St. Gabriel’s Secondary School, opposite Block 409 Serangoon Central.

The theme for this year’s event is Braddell Heights – A Greener Town, A Gracious Community. Besides having a cleaner and greener town, residents are encouraged to make a positive commitment towards gracious living through simple acts of kindness in their daily activities.

Some of the highlights at the Serangoon Sunshine Park include a launch of the Town Carnival, a tree-planting ceremony where Guest-of-Honour Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Members-of-Parliament of Marine Parade Town plants 7 Cyrtostachys Renda (Sealing Wax Palm) at the Park. Following which, an Adoption of Park ceremony by St Gabriel’s Secondary School will be conducted.

Other event highlights at the St. Gabriel’s Secondary School include a launch of COPE - Community Outreach and crime Prevention Education where the Braddell Heights Community Club, National Crime Prevention Council and Serangoon Neighbourhood Police Centre jointly tackles the latest crime prevention issues through the Community Club, which serves as a platform to reach out to members of the public.

In addition, a tour will be conducted at the National Education Resource Centre at St. Gabriel’s Secondary School. Inside the centre, there are three murals on the walls depicting Social, Political and Economic Defence, which are reinforced by the large Historical Mural along the passage leading into the central quadrangle. This depicts Singapore’s journey from its humble beginning as a fishing village to the present time. Fronting the large mural is the international friendship corner.

With continuous efforts to promote recycling, residents are also encouraged to bring recyclable items such as old clothes; old newspapers, plastic bottles and metal cans to the Carnival to redeem for daily products, courtesy of SembCorp. In another similar activity, the collaboration between SembCorp and Singapore Mint brings to residents the convenience of coin recycling. Residents of Braddell Heights will be able to exchange their floral theme circulation coins, ranging from 1 cent to 1 dollar, for dollar notes at minimal charges.

A Mass cake-cutting ceremony will also be held for Senior Citizens aged 55 and above!  Be sure to catch all these happenings at the Carnival!
