In conjunction with the national Clean and Green Singapore (CGS), Marine Parade Town Carnival 2007 joins in the eco-friendly frenzy with efforts to promote a cleaner and greener environment with activities catered to encourage residents’ participation in maintaining a healthier environment.
Guest-of-Honour Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Members-of-Parliament of Marine Parade Town will grace the event and join hands with residents of Marine Parade Town to promote a healthier environment as well as enhance family bonding.
The highlight of the event includes the launch of a new campaign “Give Me a Hi5” with the tagline “Give me a Hi5, for a clean and green environment” initiated by the National Environmental Agency (NEA). This campaign which will have its logo launched by Senior Minister Goh, serves as a platform to address five key environmental issues, namely, littering, dengue, personal hygiene, resource conservation (3Rs) and energy conservation. The campaign carries the following five messages:
- Bin your litter
- Stamp out dengue
- Practise good personal hygiene
- Reduce, reuse, recycle
- Conserve energy
The campaign aims to encourage active residents’ involvement and contributions towards caring for the environment, and ultimately, to achieve a clean and green living environment.
Senior Minister Goh and the Members-of-Parliament of Marine Parade Town will get hands-on in the clean and green efforts with the tree planting ceremony of 7 Ke Dong Dong trees at Blk 34 Marine Crescent.
Be sure to catch the happenings at the Carnival with other exciting activities such as recyclable items exchange programme and the Flowerpot Plate Exchange Project whereby residents are encouraged to bring their recyclables and flowerpot plates to the event site to exchange for food items and useful collaterals.
Instead of the usual green or yellow bins most commonly situated in the estates, Ngee Ann Primary School and residents will lit up Marine Parade in vibrancy and life with flamboyant-coloured bins. This activity helps to rejuvenate old litterbins so that they can be put to good use again.
Also, upon the flag-off by Senior Minister Goh, residents will get to experience life as a cleaner by taking part in the “Clean-up Our Neighbourhood Challenge” where they will spend a couple of hours cleaning up the estate. The Marine Parade Town Council’s cleaners will cease cleaning the surrounding area near Blk 34 Marine Crescent on 4 November 2007 morning.
Efforts by the community to keep their estates clean will be recognized with the awards presentation for the Clean & Green Singapore Environmental Ownership and the Town-wide Cleanest Estate/Town Centre Competition will be presented by Senior Minister Goh.
